ControlPro v3.4
ControlPro performs it’s own backups and stores them on the local drive. ControlPro will create a backup as soon as it’s opened, and make additional backups each hour while it’s open. Backups are not performed when ControlPro is closed.
It keeps two months worth of hourly backups, and a years worth of weekly backups. These backups are placed in the directory C:\Murray\ControlPro\Backups. Under this directory are three more sub-folders: hourly, weekly, and user requested. The user requested backups are where manual backups are stored. Follow the directions below to perform a manual backup.
On the home screen, click on the settings button.
Click on the local section and then the data tab.
Click the “backup now” button to create your own backup. Use the “restore” button to restore a backup into ControlPro. Be aware that restoring a backup will wipe out the current database and replace it. If you have data in your current database that needs to be saved, do a manual backup before doing a restore. Also, hourly and weekly backups are maintained by ControlPro. It will not do anything to the backups in the user requested folder, so be sure to clean those up after you no longer need them.
You’ll notice that there is an additional path field. This is where you can create additional backups in other folders, external drives, or file servers. These backups are maintained by ControlPro in the same way as local backups. You may need assistance from your IT to gain access to external devices for storing backups.
A new feature added to v3.4 is the ability to limit the number of backups using the max backup settings. The options are for hourly, daily, weekly, cleanup, and user. The first four backup options are all automatic backups. The last backup type, user, are the manual backups you create when clicking the “backup now” button. You can adjust the numbers to tell it to keep less or more backups for each backup type.
Backups are NOT stored offsite at our facility. Backups must be maintained by you or your IT team. If the PC breaks and data cannot be recovered, and there are no external backups, then all your data will be lost. To prevent this, contact our support team, and we can assist you in creating a backup plan for your ControlPro data.
